Firefox 4 Tips Part 3 : How To Disable Antivirus Scanning

In our journey of testing of Firefox 4, we tested many about:config tips. We have already told two tips in our earlier posts Firefox 4 tip part 1 and Firefox 4 tip part 2. Today we will tell you about one more tip. This tip is exclusive for Windows users. There is default function of Firefox due to which it scans every downloaded file to make sure that it is free of any kind of virus. You can disable this function to increase the performance of Firefox 4. This can be done by following simple steps. Lets check out those steps.

Process to Disable Antivirus Scanning in Firefox 4

  • Open Firefox 4 and type about:config in its smart location bar.
  • Look for a config named browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

  • The default value of this config is True. Right click to change its value.
  • Click “Toggle” after right click to change its value to False.

That’s it. Now every time when any of the file will be downloaded, Firefox 4 will not check it for viruses. This will increase its performance. There are more tips to come, so keep reading.

This is a brilliant time-saver for people who are “mindful” about their downloads.
Greatly appreciated, thanks!
