We all know that earlier this year Google dropped its support for Google Toolbar on Firefox 5 and higher versions. Many of the features of Google Toolbar were very useful and that’s why many users miss using it in new versions. We previously told you how to enable Google Toolbar on Firefox 5 & Firefox 6. Today we will tell you how to enable or run Google toolbar on Firefox 7.
How to Enable & Run Google Toolbar In Firefox 7
There are two methods with which Google Toolbar can be enabled in Firefox 7. For those who don’t wish to install and run toolbar here is a list of individual features which was previously provided by Google Toolbar. Otherwise here are those two methods which can help you in getting Google Toolbar on Firefox 7.
Method 1: Add-on Compatibility Reporter
- For this method you need to install a Firefox add-on named Add-on Compatibility Reporter. Once you are done with installation, restart Firefox.
- Now download Google Toolbar and install it. Restart Firefox again.
NOTE: Since support for Google Toolbar has been dropped for higher versions of Firefox, so you have to download its .xpi file. Follow the link mentioned above to download it.
- As add-on compatibility reporter is already installed, so after installation there won’t be any problem in using Google Toolbar on Firefox 7.
This is how one can enable Google Toolbar using Add-on Compatibility Reporter. The next method is a bit tricky and lengthy too.
Method 2: Edit maxVersion
- First of all you need to unhide the hidden files and folders. For this open any folder and then click on Tools > Folder Options.
- In folder options window select the view tab and then check the option for “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”. Click OK to save your settings.
- Now go to C drive and in Users folder open the folder with your username (if any). There you will find a folder named “AppData” visible now. Open the folder.
- Next, open the folder named “Roaming” and look “Mozilla” folder.
- In folder named “Mozilla“, open another folder named “Firefox“. There you will find a folder named “Profiles“. Open it.
- Open the folder named with your Firefox profile. If you haven’t created any profile then just open default folder.
- Inside default folder, open folder named extensions and then open folder named“{3112ca9c-de6d-4884-a869-9855de68056c}”.
- Finally you will get a file named “install.rdf“. Open this file with the help of a simple notepad or notepad++.
- Edit the maxVersion from 4.0 to 7.0. Close the file after saving.
- Restart Firefox and start using Google Toolbar just like old days.
In our previous tutorial for enabling GTB in Firefox 5 & Firefox 6 we found there were few problems which people were facing. Here are few tips to fix those problems. It is fairly possible that the same problems might occur after installation of Google Toolbar in Firefox 7.
Fix For Some Google Toolbar Problems
Users were facing problem in using Google bookmarks. For that you just need to edit a file named “toolbar.js”. Toolbar.js can be found in the following directory key:
C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfiles<xyz>.defaultextensions<{xyz}>lib
Where xyz stands for your Firefox profile name. If you are not using any specific profile then the name will be “Default”.
In Toolbar.js you just have to replace “www.google.com/accounts” with “accounts.google.com”. Google changed their login form that is why people were not able to use Google Bookmarks. Once you done editing, restart Firefox. Tell us through comments, how do you feel after using Google Toolbar in higher versions of Firefox.
