As we all know that Windows 8 is going to come with a new start button. If you are still in love with old start button then to get it in Windows 8 DP you need to follow these steps.

  • In your Windows 8 Developers Preview open registry editor by typing regedit.
  • Now follow the Key

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer

  • Now change the value of RPEnabled from 1 to 10
  • Close regedit. You will see old start menu.

The only drawback of this method is that you wont get Metro UI of Windows 8 because through this method it gets disabled. To get the Metro UI back you need to follow the same process again and then change the value back to 1.

No longer works on the consumer preview. Microsoft has completely removed the classic start menu.
I finally found a solution to reinstall the Windows start menu on Windows 8 consumer preview:
